    Partitioning a hard drive.

How difficult(read: impossible) is it to partition a hard drive with one of the OS already loaded on it? I know in the past it was no simple task, but I'm hoping maybe with the more recent OS they've made it more convenient.

Right now, I have Windows XP Home Edition installed.

Depends on what you wanna do. If there is unpartitioned space available, it takes all of two seconds. If not, buy Partition Magic or use Linux.

Ubunutu did it without any trouble at all. Except it did take like an hour to smash down the existing NTFS partition

If your current partition is well defragmented (All data is on one side of the HDD, so there is a lot of empty space on the other side), itll make the partition really fast and easy.

If not, then it will have to move all the data to one part of the hdd, and then create the new partition in the new space.

Its a mostly fast and easy process.

Well, I just destroyed an OS trying to do it, so I advise caution and backups.

I destroyed my harddrive. I should have made the partitions with a hack saw, not a cross-cut saw. Stupid me.
