    When I open a file by going under "Open with..." with Notepad. Does it execute the line "C:\WINNT\Notepad.exe -D:\Myfile.txt" ?

    Check. Start -> Settings -> File settings -> File extensions tab (or something). Scroll down to .TXT.

    There is a registry entry somewhere which basically reads as "notepad %s", where the %s is the place holder for a filename.
