Dual Core CPUs

Hi,

I have an AMD X2 4400+, and i know games and programs in the future will be written to take advantage of both cores. I was just wandering if theres any software or drivers or even if its possible to bind both cores into some kind of virtual single core CPU, so applications have 4ghz avalible rather than just 2ghz? Or am i just dreaming

A dual core processor can run 2 threads at the same time. You cannot run a single thread on 2 CPU's. What you are after is not possible.

Essentially there already are. Any single application which spawns additional threads to complete a task will show increased speeds on a dual core machine. Existing examples of this would be video editors, sound editors, rendering engines such a 3DMax, etc. I'm sure there are plenty of other applications out there that do this, it just wouldn't be apparent to the user.
