    set command

What exactly set command in command prompt does?
When I type it I got various information. At first I thought those are informations from config.sys and other files but appears not.
can you give a little more information abut it?
    Thanks

It can be used to set or display the current environment variables in your command prompt. If you use set to set an environment variable, it won't stay set permanently - it will only exist/be modified in the instance of the command prompt you set it in.

To set environment variables permanently, I think you need to use something in the control panel...

What do you need to know?
