dual os : xp & linux ( cannot go online in XP)

    Hello everybody !

Recently I have been trying to make a considerable effort to change to linux and sucessfully installed red hat 9.0 and winxp dual boot but have run into a serious problem...

This is a brief overview of what I did, created 10GB partition in bios and installed winxp(ntfs) on it, then from xp created a FAT32 (5GB) partition and another 5GB(NTFS) partition. Then I booted from red hat CD and installed red hat on remaining 8.6GB. It works fine... but here are the problems I face......

Problem : I have a LAN based internet connection which requires me to log on using a ISP client giving my username and password. The first time I looged on winxp I ran this client and was able to log on, I forgot to log out and restarted my computer and started linux and entered all the information in the network card like IP, DNS, gateway.

SURPRISINGLY It didn't even ask me to download the client and I was able to go online just by giving this information. PROBLEM: NOW I CANNOT GO ONLINE ON WinXP.....?????
I tried to do everything deactivate the card on linux and trying to log on in winxp. I am able to log on in XP but I cannot go online ......... internet explorer just gives up it doesn't even try connect to the website......
    this

    PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!

I have a couple of suggestions:

Have you tried to ping another pc on your LAN?
Are you running a software or hardware firewall that may be interfering with your connectivity?

what type of connect are you running? (cable, dsl, etc.)
are you running any additional network devices? (router, switch, etc.)
why do you use an isp client? can you manually configure tcp/ip?
what are your tcp/ip connections set to? (automatic, dhcp, static, etc.)

you should ping your pc, the modem, any network devices between you and the modem, and finally an outside ip address. this will give us more data to trouble shoot with.

dual booting a system is like having two independent operating environments.
configuration of the one does not always affect the other. two separate partitions usually prevents one system from corrupting the other.

I am able to ping the gateway fine and my norton internet security is configured to accept and allow all connections through the client.

I have a static IP and a gateway, DNS which is use along with the client to log in using my username and password, Iam connected to a switch which is shared by other users, its a local connection which is setup through LAN settings and controlled bandwidth to every user ......

Just so we can get a full picture of what is going on why don't you give us a copy of your ip configuration.
Open up a cmd window and type this:
    ipconfig/all >c:\testip.txt
Then just open this file up with notepad and post the results back here.
