Wireles network prob - master browser???

I have recently upgraded to a Belkin wireless modem and router and am having problems with the connection. It has periods when it keeps dropping out every 2 or 3 minutes, and other times when it works fine. I get the error message below in the event viewer:
    Code:
The browser has forced an election on network \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{B39D036E-7353-4E78-9B9C-03AD6A096E51} because a master browser was stopped.
I've searched google and every result I find tells me its not a problem unless it happens every 5 minutes - but it doesn't tell me what to do if it does happen every 5 minutes!!

Any chance of some help with this, its seriously beginning to drive me barmy! Although it has curbed my online gaming habits which is probably a good thing!

Edit: I seem to be having a very unreliable connection today, any other tips about wireless networking would also be appreciated
Couldn't think of anything interesting, cool or funny - sorry.

well could you give me some more info? I need to get a visual map of your network. This error usually occurs when two network devices fight over who is the default gateway.

    Thanks for replying.

Its a very simple network - one modem/router downstairs plugged directly into main phone line and a single pc upstairs. Not really sure what else might be relevant...

what OS is running on your pc? Generally this error would be encountered if your pc is trying to also act as a router (either by having RRAS installed or ICS running). This could also be happening if by accident you have your pc plugged into the router on an uplink port.

XP pro. Where would I check for RRAS and ICS running? I'm pretty sure ICS isn't but have never heard of RRAS...

And the pc isn't plugged into the router at all, its a wireless router/modem about 6 metres from the computer.

since it's xp (and not 2000/2003 server) then you don't have to worry about RRAS...perhaps you could post some screenshots of your router config, it seems the problem must be lying there.

Does this connection problem happen on both computers? And what brand of wireless adapter are you using on the pc? But anyway you should try updating the firmware on the router/modem frist this could fix your problem.
int a; don't make a program without it.

there is only 1 computer with a wireless belkin adaptor. the router/modem is made by belkin as well. I'll take a look at the firmware upgrade possibility, thanks
