I've been to many sites but haven't found an answer. I have 3 computers connected to a router and all are connected to the net. I want to be able to see files on the other computers. I dont want one computer to be a server or have ICS i just wan't a peer-to-peer connection. I run the Network set up wizard on my computer that has Xp and it finishes succesfully. But i don't know how to finish the connection on my 2nd computer with windows 2000 on it. How do I do all this?
Have you shared at least one folder on each machine?
Can you ping each machine?
Do you have software firewalls installed?
Are the firewalls configured correctly?

I managed to get it working, except for one thing. I used my xp to logon to the 2000 comp and it asked for user name and pass. There is no pass so i entered the user name that i use on the 2000 comp and logged in. But my 3rd Windows ME computer sees the 2000 and the XP but asks for a password for the 2000. there is no password so I press ok and it dowsn't connect. I set up all the permissions and im stuck!! Plz help!
It should probably be a simple fix just put a password on the one that currently doesn't have one. That way you can type in the password when it prompts you.
My computer is awesome.
just for your clarification:
when sharing files in xp, it automatically allows everyone to see them. Prior to xp (like in w2k), you must also set correct permissions on folders as well. On the folders you have shared, go to the permissions, add the everyone object, and grant them read permissions.

that is true, but I think his problem/question lied in why he was prompted with a login when trying to view shared files on OS's except for XP. I don't think the problem is that something doesn't work, it just doesn't work the way he expected.

if i remember correctly, since 98, windows has required a manditory password for network access. be it null or something else.
As for common network issues...
i would recommend learn a little about tcp/ip. and your firewall settings. that is were you will find the most issues.

It doesn't say net+, but from the internet discription i pulled from google, it sounds very similar, if not the same, to the net+.
I know it isn't a cisco certification, but I will be testing for my cisco certification shortly.
