publisher 2000 with publisher 2003 file

    i'm assuming from an error
    can not open other version
means micro$oft didn't make publisher products backwards compatible. i have a publisher 2003 file i want to open, but i only have a full professional 2000.
i guess this is another money trick to make you pay for the new version, but does anyone know if micro$oft was kind enough to make a converter or upgrade for the old publisher 2000 so it can view and alter publisher 2003 files? i have check the support site for publisher 2000, but microsoft has limited support. you would think if you pay $400 for a software, the would protect your interest and allow backword compatibility with newer versions.
    any help would be appreciated.

You can often open documents that were saved in an old version, but you usually can't open a document that was created in a newer version. Publisher is one of the worst in this regard. I'm afraid you probably will not find an upgrade to your Publisher version. And you don't have to pay $400 for an upgrade if you just want to upgrade Publisher... you could probably find a good version of it online somewhere for less than $30.
