for the last few days the brightness of my computer
goes up and down.sometimes it becomes very dark
and then again returns to normal.

monitor specifications?? the model number and the company..then someone might be able to help you..also, have you tried to degauss the monitor? if that feature is available on it

It would sound to me like either your video card or your monitor is about to die. Try switching either of them out to test it. If you don't have a spare of either, it's pretty much a waiting game.
