Not true, i use this backdoor all the time to fix lockouts and help kids get around parent controls.
You'll have to provide some evidence. This would totally invalidate Windows security and details would be all over the web, usenet, ntbugtraq etc. Far more complex privilege escalation vulnerabilities are usually patched within a month or two.

I tried both methods of creating a user account on Windows XP without success. The User Accounts control panel applet doesn't give me the option to create a new user. When I click on the help item for creating a new user it says: "This is a task that only a computer administrator can do".

The other method to create a new user is to go to Administrative Tools->Computer Management->Local Users and Groups. This lets me complete the new user form, but when the Create button is pressed gives an "Access Denied" error.

I would say your network administrator probably has a decent reason for the 2-minute logoff. as somebody else said, it could be for security reasons. it also depends on what your machine is used for. for example, the printer I work on shuts off in stages, beginning from a few seconds after the last print gets out of the printer section and into the processing section.

the only thing I could suggest is rigging up a drinking bird to hit a key every once in a while: http://www.geocities.com/jareifel/drinking_bird.gif

All versions of home and Pro, but with pro it depends on the settings. You can almost always do it on pro unless the person setting up the PC knows how to avoid it. I dont think 2k and the true NT systems do.

Like i said before, ive done this more times than i can count, on a lot of computers. In fact one of the residents at the buiulding where i work got locked out of her XP Pro pc today and thats how i got her back in.
