    t.v. card

can someone plz tell me how tv tuner card helps me to watch t.v. on computer.
does it become independent t.v. after putting the card or does it have a connection with the original t.v.

and any idea how much does it cost?

tv tuner cards are pretty cheap ($30-$70 USD)... but it depends what your input is. If you want a decent antenna for catching broadcast stations, it'll cost you a little more.

If you're just getting it for cable, then you just run another coax line to the card and you're done.

I hope that answers the question.

Depends on what part of the world you hail from.
In the UK (And most of Western Europe at least), digital broadcasting is becoming the norm. Digital cards cost as much as £50 more than their analogue counterparts, but on the plus side, even if you're signal's not that strong you'll get amost exactly what was sent (No fuzzy lines or anything). The fact that it comes into your computer as an MPEG-2 stream makes life nice for recordings and such.

HDTV is becoming commonplace in the US, which is better than DVB (Europe). You can get cards for that too.

As for how it "works", the TV tuner fills a buffer in memory with either raw video (Analogue) or an MPEG-2 stream (Digital). Driver software displays it or pipes it to disk. Fin.
