    Firefox user switch

Firefox messed up I closed it. When I relaunched it it prompted and said the default profile is in use. I created another profile. Now I don't know how to get back to the default user. I miss my bookmarks and extensions *sniff*
    My computer is awesome.

You could always just switch to Opera. It'll import the bookmarks for you.

You don't want to create a new profile. The original firefox process is stuck running in the background, holding your profile locked. When you start a new firefox process it prompts you to create a new profile because it can not use the original profile because it is locked and it can't communicate with the original firefox process as it usually does because it is stuck.

This is one of the nastier of the many bugs in firefox because the user thinks they have lost their original profile with bookmarks, home page, etc. This will usually prompt them to hate firefox, tell their friends how bad it is and go right back to internet explorer.

The solution is to forcefully terminate the original stuck firefox process.
    - Press Ctrl+Alt+Del.
    - Click Task Manager.
    - Click on the Processes tab.
    - For each firefox.exe entry highlight it and press End Process.
    - Click Yes to the warning dialog.
    - Start firefox. You should be able to use your original profile.

Or follow jverkoey's suggestion which does the same thing. Alternatively, use a browser that isn't so buggy.

I backup my firefox bookmarks regularly, just because I've had FF crash and destroy my profiles all too frequently. Just work out where your bookmarks.html is being stored, and copy it to another directory on a daily basis (eg everytime you boot up the OS). In fact, I use Nero BackItUp to do this for me. Just remember that FF mustn't be running when you do the copy.
When all else fails, read the instructions.
