    Graphics card problem?

    One of my computers was giving me a lot of trouble, so I replaced a few components.

    MoBo ECS P4S5A -> ASUS P4P800S-E Deluxe
    RAM 256MB DR2700 -> 1GB DR3200
    Disk 120GB Seagate Barracuda S-ATA, (old disk now mounted as just a regular second drive)

    After setting it all up, I have an odd visual problem. The screen has an odd "shimmer", but not all of the time. About 50% of the time it looks completely normal, the rest of the time it "wobbles", less then a millimeter, but really irritating when trying to read it! This problem was not there before I upgraded these components.

    I have installed the latest versions of the graphics card driver, (NVidia GeForce2 MX/MX 400), and the driver that came with the monitor, (Samsung SyncMaster 171B flat panel). The settings in XP are the same as they were before, i.e. 1280 x 1024 x 32bit at 72Hz.

    If the screen were a crt, I'd be looking for some kind of electrical interference, but I don't think the flat screen is affected in that way. In any case, nothing has been added in the vicinity for ages.

    Any ideas? It is really annoying!

    Have you checked the pins on the VGA connector (Assuming you're not using DVI)? The plug on mine is a bit loose, needs a good jam into the socket.

    Try changing the resolution & frequencies (hz) of the display while it's being whobbly to see if that has anything to do with the whobbilyness.
