Okay, this is a weird one hopefully somebody here will know something. I just installed a new processor into my motherboard, but the clock speed on it was only showing as 1.6 when it should have been at least 2 Ghz. I found out that in order to correct this I need to change the front side bus (FSB) to a higher setting, done in the BIOS menu. So I load up the BIOS menu upon startup and it seems like the whole menu has been child proofed. The last time I opened the BIOS menu six months ago I could do anything like change the voltage, RAM speed, etc, but now the most complicated thing it'll let me do is decide which disk to boot from. For example, if I enter the change voltage/clock menu option, the new menu only lets me do one thing: change spread spectrum (enable/disable). Not even in the change voltage menu can I change the voltage!
The BIOS is a Phoenix AwardBios. The only things I have done to my computer as of late was install the new chip and clear the CMOS using the jumper. Not saying either of those caused this, but they are the only changes my computer has seen in six months that I can think of. Anyone at all have any ideas as to why this possibly happened or how to maybe fix it?
