    Hp C5110a Scsi

    Hey everyone,

Couple of weeks ago somebody "dashed" me a comp, its a P2 but the processor seems to be able to run upto 566 Mhertz and the maximum Ram i can insert is according to the information that came along 1024 Mb...
It has SCSI controller inside and also 4 SCSI hardisks connected to it, so far everything seems ok but i still haevnt tested anything yet since im waiting for a power supply to arrive soon...
( and else im going to get one soon today )

Anyway along with the comp a scanner was "dashed" to me, but to my surprise the scanner also uses SCSI, now my question is where the hell do i insert the cable coming from the scanner into the comp...

Ive never seen a system that uses SCSI so actually im pretty dumb when it comes down to this kind of hardware...Ive searched the mobo and no port was available that fitted the SCSI cable from the scanner, when i follow the SCSI cable going from SCSI controller to the 4 hard drives - the end of that cable ( after coming out of the hard disk block ) goes to the back of the computer, there you can plug in a cable...( maybe something like an SCSI port... )

But this port is bigger then the connector of the SCSI port.

Is there anyway i can plug in that scanner, it used to work before ( according to the one who dashed it to me - and no the system will still work i got it dashed not because its broke but because i worked in that company for some time during summer and i got to know a "high" positioned lady, we got friends and at the end she said that i could have the comp if i wanted ).

Any help would be very much appreciated,
    Thanks in advance,

    Greets,

    Ganglylamb.

PS: sorry if im using the wrong english words for all the hardware related terms...english is not my mother tongue and when it comes down to hardware terms like this i just mix everything up.

Perhaps they're different versions of SCSI

Try looking here to see if you can match up what connectors you have

If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

Yes i was looking at hostuffworks while you were replying probably

Already i know more about SCSI after reading the howstuffworks thingie, I appear to have an onboard SCSI controller,
the connector taht ends up at the back of the comp is a 68-pin Alternative 3 SCSI connector
as shown on this page http://computer.howstuffworks.com/scsi3.htm
But the connector of the scanner cable is a 50-pin Centronics SCSI connector the picture is just under the previous kind of connectors picture. ( this one is the MD50M connector from the site you gave me Salem )

Let me check that website Salem and ill get right back to you.

    ::edit::
    Alright it seems that i need this 6ft SCSI-2 MD50M TO SCSI-1 DB25M CABLE
    cable.

    Then a last question.
Suppose i buy this cable will the scanner work since it is meant to be for scsi will it work when i connect it to the onboard DB25 female connector at the back of the comp?

I suppose it will work but i just want to be sure .

Anyway great help by the way Salem ( actually you are just like usual: "Right On" )

    Thanks so far.

    Greets,

    Ganglylamb.

Thought iu write another post since my previous one is getting to loaded,
Along with my so called "last question" another one just pops up in my mind.

Suppose i connect with the cable specified in my post above, will i need to use a terminator at the other scsi MD50 female connector of the scanner?
If so which terminator is required, an active or passive one?

Again i thank you for reading and replying on my posts.

Probably best to put the maufacturer / model number of your scanner into google and see if you can find some user manual for it.

My SCSI scanner doesn't have a terminator, but then again it doesn't have a SCSI out either.

BTW, that cable site was just the first one google found, I'd recommend a bit of shopping around for the best deal

Alright thanks alot Salem for all your help,

im going to buy the cable in a store when im at my uni, i get a great deal of discount over there ( its most of the time a 50% discount mlike thing ).

I´m still having troubles finding a good powersupply for this comp since its not like a normal comp it seems that there´s one power connector more needed to fuel the Mobo...Anyways ill look into that as soon as i figure out what kind of motherboard is on top , i dont want anything fried on this one.

    Thanks alot Salem,

    Greets,

    Ganglylamb.
