    100 Terrabyte Drive comming soon!

I bet you all are sick of me by now , but here's the link:

    100 Terrabyte Disks and Drive

Apparently it uses fiber-high tech stuff , and the guy sounds like he spent forever to do this. Price is estimated (for the drive) from $550-$800 (not exact, check article. I could be off a few dollars)

Again, if you like this, gimme a nice rating!

And here's an interesting Slashdot discussion on the topic, with many people pointing out how corporate America most likely won't allow this to happen.

I think we can say that the PhysOrg story is not an independent critical piece by someone knowledgeable in the field.

Unfortunately the "press-release writeups" seem to be common in the physics world.
“I gave up two times because I was not able to work thru a concept of non-volatile, non-destructive readout,” says Michael. “I finally had a break thru when reviewing Einstein/Plank and Niels Bohr Atomic Theories.”
I think you could call that the physics equivalent of someone claiming on this forum "I've just finished creating an AI bot that can pass the Turing test. I had some trouble at first but then I used DirectX/OpenGL with Java.NET and Stroustrup's binary tree theorem."
The expected cost of the Atomic Holographic DVR disc drive will be from $570 to $750 with the replacement discs for $45.
Quoting prices at such an early stage and the extremely low price seems unusual to me.

I hope this is legitimate and it may well be, but I won't be holding my breath. More discussion on this "story".

Just a question - do the people who explicitly ask for rep bumps ever get very successful? I wouldn't have thought so but I noticed Stan100's reputation was actually not that bad.

If you thought this was an insightful and well-thought question, feel free to give me a nice rating.

Thus continuing the age-old tradition of Windows not working.

I know this has been said in the past about the capacity that drives have now, but how many folks will actually use 100 terrabytes?

Hahaha, the updated version of "where would you like to go today" will require a minimum of 2Gigs of DDR ram.

    sounds like...

No one will need more than 637 kb of memory for a personal computer.

After installing Visual Studio.NET I could certainly use a terrabyte or two.

edit: The only reason people aren't using terrabytes is because they aren't there yet. Programs are always designed with the user's disk space in mind (except... Visual Studio.NET). As disk spaces have slowly grown, so have the programs. If a terrabyte-sized disk came out, programs would start using much larger resources (especially Visual Studio.NET). It's like saying we would never use a new continent if we had one. I mean, look at Wyoming. We don't need the extra space (except for Visual Studio.NET). But with a new continent, China might consider stopping that 1-child only law (China's kinda like VS.NET)

Actually I love it. It just killed my disk space.

edit: Why? You don't like the Chinese?

    I'm keeping that one.
If I did your homework for you, then you might pass your class without learning how to write a program like this. Then you might graduate and get your degree without learning how to write a program like this. You might become a professional programmer without knowing how to write a program like this. Someday you might work on a project with me without knowing how to write a program like this. Then I would have to do you serious bodily harm. - Jack Klein
