Can't you just swap two hardrives with different OS.....

I have two computers, but I want to switch hardrives without having to format. I just want to have all of the settings from one computer to the other, same OS, same files same everything, can't I just do that. Or do I have to reformat, I am kind of leaning that way because of hardware dependencies perhaps from one computer to the other and the OS.

If the other hardware items are the same (like similar processor, same RAM, same Display Cards and importantly sama mother board etc etc), go ahead swap the HDDs and have fun. But if they vary, then you still can swap but just make sure that the Operating Systems support the new features in the other system.

    Cheers.

If they are modern OS's, the new OS's should be able to detect most/if not all of the new hardware. It just might take a while.

If you have XP, forget about it. Did once, and it kept saying it couldn't boot.
Otherwise you should be OK, as long as the hardware isn't too different so as not to upset the drivers or the OS.

Well I do have XP, and it's not working, looks like I am going to have to reformat. I mean after all they're even different processors, Intel and Athlon. Thanks guys. It just stays up there with a small underscore blinking and after like 5 minutes it doesn't go over that.

It is not recommended to keep the same OS installation after major hardware changes (processor, mobo). You should format (or maybe just install over the current installation) the drive and start over.

the cpu you can get away with but changing mobo will mess it up pretty good.
