Web browser asks Authentication when surfing

On an IIS hosted website, I have a link that
goes to a MS Word document (myDoc.doc),
this is publicly accessable and not in a protected directory.

On about half of the computers I try it on, the browser asks for a username and password,
but clicking CANCEL also goes to the .doc file.

Why would I be asked to Authenticate on some PC's and not others ?

because microsoft sucks Long live apache!

Is there a common thread among the computes that ask for the password (i.e. the browser, the OS, etc)?

it always used to do that to me to, but even when I tried to open up a web page off my local server it wouldn't even give me permission to do so...go with apache.
    PHP and XML
