    A+ certification questions

    ok, two quick questions.

#1. Is it worth the money to get my A+ certification?

#2. What is the best way to go about doing this (class, book, etc)?

A+ certification might be better if you are a computer technician of about 1 year experience or more in maintenance

my advice to you is to determine what is your field of interest and whether you like to work in mainteneance or in network administration or in programming ... etc . afterwards you choose to study for certificate suitable for your field of interest

My A+ certification is what landed me my first two technical jobs (helpdesk, then onsite PC repair). It didn't have squat to do with what I do now though (software testing).

That is how I started...I played multiplayer games in middle school, and I used to have to get my neighbor to upgrade my computer so I could play the latest games back when the big 4MB graphics cards came out. A teacher recommended I go for the A+ Certification test. Back then I did not even know how to format. I definately say it is worth the knowledge. Money cannot be put on knowledge. A+ will help you learn all about repairing computers. I got the A+ when I was 14, Network+ at 15..and MCP/MCSA at 17. IT has been good to me and you can get some good 8-15 an hour jobs doing helpdesk / on site repairs. If programming is your thing then A+ is not for you. I'd definately recommend the McGraw-Hill/Osborne books. It has a picture of a statue on the front cover and the book is half blue half red. I've used them for all my certification tests. Good luck. Core is easy, OS is the trickery one.

I took a class when i was 17 last year, and we used a book called Enhanced A+ Guide to Managing and Maintaining Your PC (3rd edition). I highly recommend this book, though I'd suggest getting the 5th edition (A+ Guide to Managing and Maintaining Your PC (5th Edition)) which is more up to date, I think they just updated the A+ test in 2003 to include Windows XP and some new hardware stuff. That book, and the thing that helped me most was going through the exam questions. You can look up A+ practice exams online and buy a package of them. I used to have a link to the site where i took the class and all the questions were there for free but it's changed and my link doesn't work anymore. but definitely go through that book and those practice questions to get a good idea of what the questions are really like. it's easy...
