Looks like you didn't read to the end of my message. I have already found the password. I had a copy of the executable on my pc at work and since I hardcoded the password, I just opened it up in notepad and found it in the constants section. Thank you for the suggestion though.
hey next time that happens, why not just use your xp cd and install onto another hard disk (like you had done with 98). Then just get rid of that install of xp before you have to register it...shouldn't take you 30 days to delete a file...but glad to see that you figured it out.

Thank you for that suggestion waldo, however (as stated in my original post) I don't have an XP disk. That is exactly how I planned on solving the problem. In fact, I already went through swapping out my drives and everything when I realized I couldn't access the files on the real master because I was unable to install XP on the temporary master.
I don't even know if Dell provided me with an XP install disk with my system, but even if they did, I have no idea where it went after my move a few months ago.
I was going to suggest a hex editor, but the problem's solved...

Had it not been, that wouldn't have helped because I couldn't access the computer at all. After XP's login screen, regardless of which account I chose, I would be faced with a full grey screen asking for a password. So I wouldn't have been able to get to a hex editor to find the password unless I supplied the password to access it. Kind of a catch 22 :\Originally Posted by major_small
