    First results

Finally i got this new pc together after some minor issues, all my problem hehe.

Ok, a little change in stats, so here we go, as it stands:

    AMD 1800+ @ 2.54GHZ - STABLE
    512MB PC3200 - unsinked for the moment
    GForce FX5200 - standard setup

I bought a Ahanix Iceberg water cooling system for it, running high grade (haha) antifreeze 50/50 mix from advance auto.

This is a minor step in what this chip can go to on my setup, and get this.....im posting a high of 37C!!!! Thats with the hardcano voltage setting for my radiator fan on low, and everything basically bonestock.

I'm done for tonight, i need sleep. Tomorrow after i get home i will 3dmark it, tweak some more, and hopefully get my hands on my dads digital camera.

BTW, Thantos, i through that fan out the window :P

Dude, you gotta get a better graphics card than that. You got a pretty good computer, but it is being bottlenecked by your graphics card.

    actually im fairly impressed.

I was impressed with it when I just bought it, but after a while I started to hate it. It's extremely slow, and a pain to try to get to do anything with. You have to download and set up nVidia's special closed source driver just to use it with X, the nv driver only supports the GeForce FX 5800

uhm, what tests are you running to see if it is stable?

Not to bust your bubble, but if you are going with 3DMark to test, you will soon find that it is not that good of a test.

You need to get prime95 for testing your CPU(test for roughly 24-48hrs to make sure your CPU is stable):

then check out memtest86 for your memory overclock.

All in all, great overclock man, if it is 100% stable I do believe that is the highest overclock I have seen for an 1800+ with the exception of phase change cooling systems.

EDIT: what vCore are you runnign at, along with multis/fsb?

    Totally agree with EvBladeRunnervE

For example, even though I have succesfully completed a 3DMark 2K1 benchmark with my 1700+ @ 3200+ speeds (200x11 vs. 133x11) cramming around 2 volts down the CPU and 2.8 to my ValuRam PC2700, then running my Ti4200 @ Ti4400 speeds it is in NO WAY stable at those speeds. Prime95 will quit within 5 seconds and Sandra's burn in test will hard lock the PC. I have to run at 2600+ speeds (166x12.5) with 1.75 volts to be totally Prime95 stable (24+ hours).

I also agree, great overclock! 2.54 GHz is not bad at all. I've definately seen higher (closer to 3 GHz prometia, even 2.6 stable on air) but I would not complain in the least I'm happy with 2.1 GHz personally

What's your FSB at? AMD's love high FSB and tight memory timings. More so the tight memory. I'm assuming you have the same mobo you were talking about in the last thread?

Anyway.... yeah, despite what you may think about the 5200 it's ONLY a good card if you've never used anything better than a GeForce 2 or worse. Some models of the 5200 are actually worse than a GeForce 4 MX card... My Ti4200 will destroy a 5200 in both DX8 benchmarks AND DX9 benchmarks.... which is sad considering the Ti4200 is only a DX8 card.

For less than $200 with tax you could get a ATI Radeon 9600 Pro or XT, both of which will walk all over your 5200. If you want to spend a little more the 9800 Pro is about $215. ATI is really the way to go right now, I have a really hard time reccomending any of nVidia's <$200 cards. The 5700 Ultra is around 9600 XT performance, but costs more.

    What happened to $200

Good card, but WAYYYYY too expensive.

Also, did you get a new mobo? Would surprise the hell out of me if you're actually running 200 MHz FSB on a Via 333 chipset.

same board, i told you its one of the best overclocking boards for the 1800 chip. Yea 200 was my limit till i saw it in action att he local comp shop.

    What a mess

At least with water cooling you don't have to worry so much about airflow. Still, given that you're managing 200 MHz FSB (even my Asus A7N8X can't do that well....) I bet the Northbridge would be happier with a little better airflow

well im going to take it all apart and run wires much cleaner i mean look at it. My temps started getting a little high after 16 hours of prime95 and it locked up so i backed off to 166 x 11.5 @ 2V and its much happier, 24 hours of prime95 no probs. 33C idle 40 under heavy loads.

You could've bought a Radeon 9800 for half of that.
