    slow typing ad highlighting

Hey guys, for a while now my pc has been really slow when, for example backspacing text. I'll hold backspace, and the cursor will not move until a few seconds afterwards and then it will move ectremely slowly. Another problem I'm having is with highlighting text on webpages....same thing, it is extremely slow to highlight, and scrolling is virtually impossible. I've tried clearing my cache and temp files and nothing worked. BTW everything works normal everywhere except on the net.

I'm on winblows XP, using IE5, PIII 1ghz

sounds like something is freaking out with IE. Try switching to Opera or maybe just reinstalling IE.... or maybe just upgrading to 6!?

    windows trick of the day:

press ctrl A if you're going to highlight everything

or, if not, if you scroll past the point where you're going to select, and drag up, it goes at least 2 times faster...the computers here at school are slow as hell and that's the only way I can keep my sanity sometimes

I'll bet money that even a Ctrl-A would highlight relatively slowly if he's seeing those issues.

And i'll reiterate my point from above... IE6 has been out for probably 2 years. Why haven't you upgraded?

bah...it is IE6....sorry for the mistype!

Waldo, before the highlighted scrolling beyone the current window was extremely fast.....now it almost freazes up my pc! Another thing, I was testing out various things, and IE stops working when the page is extremely long, like for example this one: http://www.uic.edu/classes/timetable/chng.html

again, everything works fine on mozilla and netscape...

it doesn't matter, really, because I mostly use Mozilla, but my dad sometimes wants to get on the net and uses IE....

anyways, I'll try reinstalling IE when I get home...

until you fix IE, check out IE theme for Mozilla:

Just create a profile for your dad, install this theme, and he'll hardly notice the difference

damnit, I installed the newest version of IE, and still the same thing. Oh well, maybe I'll try to make my dad use Mozilla. Probably the best way to do that is to remove IE completely

    What your your computer's specifications?

It seems like some of the programs must have eating up those resources (my thought) . . .
