Stanby wake up problem [windows xp resnet]

hey there..I have a simple problem which may not have a solution but I'll ask cus I'm not sure

I'm using a new computer I just got at my university's residence and when I'm connected to the internet through my university's resnet my standby mode keeps waking up on its own. something causes my computer to come out of stand by mode...I know for sure that it only happens when my computer is connected to the internet at my residence..I asked my tech support here at school and they said that they're internet doesnt do anthing that would cause that...but they are in fact full of it or just a bunch of amatures because It seems that everyone in my residece has the same prolem...so I guess the resnet is sending a signal to my computer and that causes to come out of standby or something..is there a way around this?

    thanx in advance
    Boomba,

on winxp if you goto control pannel>system click on the "hardware" tab then "device manager". Find the device that you use the internet. e.g. "network adapters". expand it and find the name of the device that you use the internet from. rightclick on it and goto properties. On the properties window click on "power managment" remove the check mark "allow this device to bring this computer out of stand by" or similar to that.

    Hope that helps!

    Unplug the cable.
If you're on soft-off mode, the hardware is controlled by the BIOS, so you'll have to uncheck whatever it is that wakes it up. Check your mobo's manual, it might be a hardware switch.

Connect the network cable to the mains power plug on the wall.
    Should do the trick.

I cant do that because the phone has to use that jack in the wall..and its the only jack in the room....I still need the phone in.

so what your saying tho is that the phone maybe the thing bringing my comp out of stanby?..any way of blocking i from doing that?
