    Cannot boot computer

I've installed a new motherboard, and the parts get power only when no IDE plugs are beeing used (empty), and nothing ever displays on my monitor...

DFI - AD77 (MotherBoard), AMD XP 2200+ (Processor), Power supply unknown

The Manual is very vague on the situation...

The power supply came with the no-name case

    What I'd do......

    Check for:
    1. Is the PSU turned on, and plugged into a working outlet?

    2. Is the ATX power cable plugged into the mobo?

    3. Is the 4-pin CPU power plug connected? (I'm not sure if AMD mobo's have this... check mobo manual to be sure)

    4. Is the CPU fan connected to the mobo?

    5. Is the power supply good? --replace with known good PSU or (use caution!) short pin with green wire to pin with black wire on the ATX power plug (use a paperclip.. but only do it if you feel confident around live electronic equipment). If the PSU fan spins 90% that PSU is good. If you really want to get into the nitty-gritty of testing the PSU.. whip out a multimeter and test voltage at each colored pin. (black's are ground).. the correct volatages should be labeled somewhere on the unit.

Without looking at your setup there's not much I can tell ya. The IDE thing is strange... I'd say you have a bad mobo and you should send in for a replacement.. but do some basic troubleshooting first to make sure you haven't overlooked anything.

    5. I don't have another ATX PSU, only an semi-functional AT one.

    first of all,

    >> the parts get power only when no IDE plugs are beeing used (empty)

WTF does that mean? Unless you're talking about fans, there shouldn't be any other parts that are moving that you would notice them "getting power" if you have all IDE devices unplugged.

Are you getting beep codes? Have you tried switching video cards? It would sound to me like mobo problems also. As a last ditch effort before sending it in, call them and ask them about it. (you may have to explain the situation just to get an RMA anyways).

he means that his mobo gets only powered up when he disconnects IDE cables from channels

Dont know what the prob is but just to be on the safe side: buy MSI or Asus mobos only

Any beeps>? what pattern if any??

I managed to get to my vendor early today, I turns out I hadn't seated the chip properly, that lever wasn't visible, so I didn't notice it, next time I'll read the instructions a tad more carefully. Anyway, thanks for your help, I do appreciate it.

I know this is solved, but I just have to comment on this: That is narrow-minded. Neither of those manufacturers are "safe-bets". Those are your opinion, please don't try to pass it off as otherwise.

most other manufacturers products end-up having problems; also other mobos/GC are not good for tweaking either. The only "SAFE-PRODUCTS" and that give u the best performance are from only MSI and ASUS.

Again, your opinion. This is not a fact and I'd like you to try and prove me wrong.
