Yeah, GNOME is awesome. I used KDE until like last week. I compiled GNOME 2.4 from source.

I tried OpenOffice. It was nothing like Office and I didn't like it.
Last Linux I used was loaded and could be run on the cd. It installed itself to my hard drive. I don't remember its name but that was about 6 months ago.
IE is a great product btw.

I didn't need that, thanks.
Apples are great though.
OpenOffice is better than MS Office IMO. The ones that are actually installed on your harddrive run faster than something like Knoppix. I think you are being a little ignorant about Linux.
"When I die I want to pass peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car."
Possibly, but the two distributions I tried didn't leave much of a good impression. I tried it for about a week and didn't like it. Perhaps I should have tried another distribution but its too much of a hassle and Windows gives me what I need/like/want.
idk... I like openoffice... and my linux OS came with alot more preloaded software than my windows OS did...

>>I think you are being a little ignorant about Linux.
I second that.
>>alot more preloaded software than my windows OS did...
amen to that, you can't compile anything with windows out of the box, you've gotta spend XX (or even XXX) dollars on .NET or something...with linux all the compilers/interpreters you could dream of wanting are free, out of the box.
>>I tried OpenOffice. It was nothing like Office and I didn't like it.
no kidding it's nothing like office, no flaming little paperclip holding your hand while you type, no monstrous install, no 200 dollar price tag, no usage tracks up the anus, yeah it's nothing like MS office...does that make it a bad thing? Everyone else here seems to disagree with you.
>>IE is a great product btw.
ha, that explains why there's a security patch for it almost everytime MS updates their downloads....eventually it'll be safe right?
PHP and XML
Let's talk about SAX
Having a new security patch out for IE every week means that there are actually a whole load of programmers working on it every day, improving it. I'd say thats a good thing.
Preloaded software on Windows was almost exactly what all these lawsuits were about. They forced Microsoft to stop bundling their software with Windows.
Newer versions of office have the paperclip off by default and I dont even think v.2003 has it. OpenOffice was too much like Wordpad for my taste. A bit too basic. And having over 5 windows open at one time was too much. IMHO, MS Office is better.
I might be ignorant about Linux because I only used it for a short time. But at least I friggin used it so I can post my opinion about it.
I sure liked its virtual desktops, that was a big plus, but thats about it.
Just because a lot of people are working on it doesn't make it a good product. IE is a horribly broken piece of trash. There really are no ifs ands or buts about it. Try a different windows browser like Opera or Firebird, at least.
IE lacks tons of features that I really couldn't browse without (tabbed windows, mouse gestures, download manager, etc.) any longer. Not to mention its rendering engine is trash, and it doesn't properly support CSS or PNGs.
IE is a great product? Are you insane? Try Firebird and you will never go back.
Speedy. I've learned that to love Linux you have to get past to configurations on it. I was lazy from the usage of Windows, and Linux solved that.
"When I die I want to pass peacefully in my sleep like my grandfather did, not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car."
Laziness is the big issue when somebody moves from Windows. Linux doesn't hold your hand like Windows does. If you would just take time to get used to Linux instead of playing vid games and junk, you'll learn what you've been missing. That is the biggest thing with Windows users, they don't know what they are missing; they are blinded by M$.
It looks like you did to me. Talking trash about Linux, without even knowing anything about it. Do you even know more than 10 shell commands in any shell? I bet you just used KDE: the precompiled one.I didn't need that, thanks.
I found LiveEval 9.0 iso at suse ftp site. Anyone tried already? Is it like real OS???

do you even know what you're talking about? the lawsuits were that microsoft bundled it's own software with it's OS... and that it was too hard to remove. there is no one company that releases a *NIX operating system, so therefore there cannot be any monopoly there... microsoft owns something like 80% of the OS market, which means all they have to do is package one of their programs (IE, Word, etc.) and they make an extra $XXX for each OS they sell...Originally posted by Speedy5

M$ windows used to cost around 100$ now its starting to cost more 300$ longhorn will probably 500$ then everyone will goto the free Linux.
If you think about what you can do with linux, Linux is better than windows. But because of people growing up with windows and becoming lazy and windows does all that stuff for you people buy windows. Now millions of people use windows. When the new 500$ windows comes out I won't think of buying an OS that large. Neither will other's. M$ is highering more people and thus more money for the people. That money needs to come from somewhere. Because M$ will be charging such high money people will stop using the PC or just go to linux or stay with what windows they have.
The people that will switch to linux will have a hard time becuase you have to be not lazy. I got topologilinux it wasn't hard to install it just asked some simple questions. Many programers will problably switch to linux because they like costumizing it there way. I don't know about you but I program as a hoby. Windows doesn't ask anything it leaves everything on defult settings that you could later change.
I like Linux now and I want everyone to goto Linux so I can write programs for it. The best part about programming is when people say "good job" or stuff like that. I could write programs for linux now but not much people use it as compared to windows. I like Linux because it allows users to create programs for free EveryWindows user say's windows is better because it keeps everything at defult setting when you install and thus allows you to be lazy. I don't know what happens when you install software on linux that's because there isn't much and I didn't install anything yet but linux itself and other programs it comes with on the CD.
Quick summery,
Windows users like to be lazy,
Linux users like to create there own things or just don't want to spend there money on windows.
