You would be a lot better off if you simply study the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Ha ha, he he you all say. But, as OP said-he wants to know how THE WORLD LEADERS do it.

Oh yes, thats MICROSOFT. Oh, Brian and the boys maybe dont realise that-maybe they do? (haha hehe)-Prelude has made the best reply so far.......ie, whats it all about? Marketing?

And, its not all about OS's, what about Office? Expensive -yes? Top notch (and DEFINATELY the best)-yes.......overpriced-hmmm depends what you do with it.

Oh, what was the O Post about. I forget.

Brian, can I buy you a beer? I _love_ your 'steal it' flowchart-- that is pretty d@rn accurate, I think.

    To the rest--

Most of Windows is written using C++ and VB. Most all the drivers are written in VB-- I apologize to all of you for having to even use the word 'Driver' in the same paragraph as Microsoft, VB, and Windows.

VB is a joke. _No_ production product should be written in this child's language.

People forget-- Not everybody has the mental faculties to actually _engineer_ code. 90% of the people out there should give up and go away. They are the reason so much cr@p is being developed.

Do you really think Bill Gates would tolerate Windows if there wasn't an army of technicians following him around secretly making sure his applications and system didn't crash or fail? I kid you not.

Obviously you don't have a job that involves creating software for a reasonable company.

Wouldn't we get some sort of answer if we go back in time? I mean, this first program was probably written in 'computer language'... then when the computers got complexer, they made compilers, wouldn't they? But as the programs got complexer and complexer, many a error sneeked in :\
The bigger the damn program is, the harder it is to make it bugless
