Analog sound over a digital modem?

Is there a way to play for example a wav file over a modem? Im not sure where to put this question or if anybody knows the answer to it. How hard would it be to rig up a modem in my pooter as an answering machine or a voicemail broadcaster?

There's programs that you can use to turn your computer into an answering machine. If I remember correctly, there was even a tool to do with with on Win98.

Don't forget what a modem does - it converts analog sound into digital bits. Afterall, that's what the squealing noises are, analog 'bits'. It's the program on your computer that would have to be capable of recording this.

    I think....

depends on the quality of your modem. half duplex vs full duplex voice modems, brand, type (winmodem or hardware) have a lot to do with it.
I don't know how to do it in win, i know in linux you use mgetty and vgetty.
    PHP and XML
    Let's talk about SAX
