    Question Disable Messenger Service Windows

Occasionally a window with the title "Messenger Service" pops up (Using WinXP Pro) with some junk message advertising something in text. I'm assuming it is using something like Netsend or something to that degree, but not sure.

Is there any way to disable this so I stop getting this crap popping up?

    WHAT THE HECK?

Does everyone frickin' need to post this? RoD has posted it at least once recently, and I've seen it a few other times. Run a bloomin' board search.

Or get a router. I've never had a problem with the messenger service.

    net stop messenger

RoD, get off the power trip. When you become a respected member, maybe you can whine a little. Until then, STFU.

Wow, my helping people is a power trip....wow.

Anyway if your going to try and look all high and mighty on me you should make the rest of your post helpful, and its not. That only stops the messenger until you reboot the machine, at which time you would have to do that again. On every boot. The proper way to fix this is to go to the start menu properties and click the option to display admin tools in the start menu. Now navigate to this menu and click on "services". Scroll down and find "messenger". Now open the properties, drop down the menu that says auto and select disabled. Now click stop, apply, and close.

    All gone.

how does one achieve respected member status anyway? Well, I'll concede that if there were such a thing, RoD would not likely be it. Well RoD, you're fun to have around anyway.

*wonders if he's a respected member*

*decides that he wouldn't be if he posted another one line post, so makes this a few lines longer*

Anyway, I still recommend the board search

When you become a respected member
oh so RoD isnt a respected member now? hmm...seems to me he has been here at least as long as I have (i remember back when he was Ride-or-Die). Ive been here since 1999, and he has been here as far back as I can remember, so I think that would qualify as respected member status to me.

I think it is safe to say that "respected" and "board member" can't really go together. RoD is fine, don't flip out there chief.

Ive had a few different names here dating back to 2001, but that doesnt matter. There people who have been here for 2 months i respect more than others.

Thanks to those who came to my defense.

Ha, RoD, you say some stupid stuff, but you also say plenty of good stuff

However, it is not necessarily 5:00 somewhere. Time zones tend to vary by hour or half hour increments ( I know of no exceptions.) So when it's 7:49, it's not 5:00 anywhere :P
