    notepad is broked

my notepad is broken, anytime i open a .txt file anywhere on my computer i get two errors:
    first error:
    Code:
"Windows cannot find " << filename << ". Make sure that you typed the name correctly, then try again. If you want to search for a file, click the start button, then click search."
this appears over the window i opened the file from (ie on top of the folder, not on top of the text file).
    second error:
    Code:
"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect."
there is a blank notepad sitting in the background. i also cannot save a .txt file, though if i right click on a .html file (or any other notepad type file) and go to edit, it opens fine. anyone know whats up?

Try copying notepad.exe off another computer and overwriting the copy you have now.
    Away.

well RoD's notepad was a step in the right direction, i got the icon back (before all .txt files had the unknown extension icon), but the same error messages still come up. im still working on it. and yes i copied rods in windows folder and system32.
    im running xp home.

ha, figured it out, evidently my friend had taken the liberty of installing "notepad plus", which had some messed up file associations and caused the problem. notepad was swiftly BALEETED, and bam, working notepad again. thanks everyone for your help.

Tell your buddy if he wants a real alternative text editor to try using ones that don't hijack your associations... www.textpad.com is one of my favorites.
