    sea of difference !!

Linux is a free Unix-like OS, POSIX compliant (like any UNIX (HP-UX, AIX, etc) have to be)..

Linux licensed under GNU-GPL makes it part of OSS community, it means that you have the freedom to make your own Linux very unlike the proprietary Unix's !!

linux follows most of the guidlines required to be a unix os. Some of the system programs required to make it a unix os arent included.

Most proprietry unixs have mostly ancient code and some new gimmicky code to draw customers in. Causes big speed hits, linux sticks to efficiency.

Unix kernals are often refered to as being bloated.

I've been reading a bit of Unix these days(not much though)and it gives me a feeling that MS used ideas of Unix in Windows such as multi-user facilities etc.Just that Unix is CLI.The bad part is just like DOS,u've gotta by-heart a lot of codes. They say Linux is the next-gen of Unix.I REALLY wanna try it out!!!

Oh yes, even the idea of DOS must have popped out of UNIX, the difference being UNIX always talked abt portability, Internet... some credit to Paul and Bill for seeing the PC future.. tho i love to hate MS

There's also FREE Unix, the likes of FreeBSD, OpenBSD and some other names.
