    Ethernet To Ethernet

    Is it possible to connect two computers directly from ethernet card to ethernet card? If so...How do I do it from Server 2000 to Windows XP?

    Yes, you need a crossover cable.

    Instead of a regular ethernet cable, you need a crossover cable. Those cables are designed for just this purpose, and aren't good for anything else. Go to a store and look for one, and buy it. Plug it into both computers.

    Yea, make sure it's crossover otherwise you wont be able to connect those machines.

    Technically it's called Category 5 cable (Cat 5 for short) and it's usually for 10BaseT network. Straight-thru wires are for connecting a NIC to a switch/hub, while a crossover wire is for a NIC to a NIC.
