So if i have a pc hooked into my lan, with no o/s (these dont have an o/s) i can install it that way? Dont see how, and i dont wanna have to remove windows later, and i assume if i doa full format with mandrake the lan and hence install would be lost...
for redhat atleast, yes.
you use the network boot floppy where you want to install linux, then on another network pc you have the files.
if the target machine has windows you can copy it to a folder(if its a fat32 drive) and the floppy will be able to find that and use it.
its all in the docs.

is your computer usb bootable? do you have a keychain drive?
you could just burn the floppy to a cd.
just read the docs, redhat might have something to just let you burn the first cd and get the packges on a nfs. the install image is small, its 700mb because of packages.

Yea its 650 but they tend to be a little larger when u take them off of ISO...i need to get some anyway so i might as well, i need 7 to give -ken- .net....
also whats the best version of KDE? Is there an easier place to get it than the confusing KDE website?
Most distros ship with KDE and/or Gnome.

well i downloaded mine is it the same?
The newer distros will come with KDE 3 and GNOME 2 which are the newest versions of each. You can then go to the website of whichever you choose and update the packages as needed.

There's tons upon tons of different apps for Linux, some are great products and some are utter crap by amateurs.
