i might the price of mine at the link he posted.

$1800 isnt that bad, but you should spend more on a laptop than a desktop if possible. but that site looks great, id recommend a steel case and the security locks things later too(maybe $250 us, high end).

    lol, some times thats cheaper!!!

the gps things are sometimes more pricey than a policy, and a policy works without a internet connection and batteries!

    IBM

Look man, stick with IBM, I don't have to tell you why, the name tells it all...

I'm going to buy an IBM thinkpad in the upcoming 5 days...

    I had an Ashton Maximate420
    ***WARNING***
Do NOT buy anything from ashton, or low quality companies...
They're too weak, get broken easily, no support, no drivers, nothing at all!!
    =======================
It's price was so attractive, so were the specs, I bought it without hesitation "spelling mistakes here?", It ran ok for a month, then it got many power and hardware probs, don't buy anything but high quality laptops.

    Q) Are all thinkpad cases made from titanum ??
Q)Do all thinkpads run linux ? "The reason I want a computer"

    A) Only the T-series.
    A) Well, my laptop, since its 3 years old had to get a new BIOS upgrade for it to run Linux and Windows 2000 (I run this). Newer computers will run Linux fine. In fact, IBM laptops were the first to be able to run Linux.

my "low quality company" (staples) is appearing to be more and more high quality the more i read. the xplio is apparently very durable, they provide instore support and repair plus a tech support line, and "worldwide BIOS and driver updates." and all for a way better price than anything else i can find that compares.

i think im gonna get one. i can try it for 10 days and return it for a full refund if i dont like it.

    ::edit::

what is it about a laptop that would make it unable to run linux? did they ship them with windows specific hardware back in the day or what??

    How about this one? http://www-132.ibm.com/webapp/wcs/st...goryId=2302836

Compared to your first post, this one has:

1 MB L2 Cache for the CPU and a 400mhz FSB
Integrated wireless though Intel Centrino Technology (what you want)
    15" screen
Infrared Wireless port for your Palm Pilots and such
    Ethernet connection
    CDRW/DVD
    Keyboard light
Free double memory to 512 MB
    6.3 pounds
    6.1 hour battery life
    Norton Antivirus
Costs much less: only $1,499 US

    Downgrades are:

From 768 to 512 RAM (no big deal)
From 64MB to 32MB video card
From 1.4 GHz to 1.3 GHz (but do you that Dell has that huge L2 cache...)

And chances are you'll never use all that video memory, plus look at the other things you get, the combo-drive (CD-RW/DVD) and all comes to a much lower price: from 1,838 to 1,499. And you get it from *IBM*. Customize it at your will, even.

thats pretty nice, unfortunately the only thing close to it available in canada is this

    which is $2,429.00 ( ~$1,821 USD)

the Xplio is $2,375.00 ( ~$1,781 USD) and has...

    -the same 1.4Ghz centrino
-SXGA screen instead of XGA (higher max res, mega pix, and luminosity)
    -64MB radeon 9000 instead of 32MB radeon 7500
    -512MB RAM instead of 256MB
although it isnt a big reputable name in computers

(as compared to the canadian available IBM)

they should just make one laptop in the world so i wouldnt need to decide. it would have exactly the things i want/need and would have nothing that i dont want/need all at a good price. they could call it the Perspective

Sorry to renew the thread, but I just realized that I may have a valid excuse to get my parents to buy me a laptop I checked out some Sonys for 30 seconds (the actual laptops, not a website), and they seemed nicer than most of the laptops I've seen. I didn't look at prices or components though... just the look and feel. Does anyone have a Sony? How is it?
    Away.
