IMO, Tablets are gonna be worth the same as Microsoft's Ereaders (or whatever they are called) in the future, nada.
the idea is old but not alot laptops have the writing ability. same with the os.

they make normal-like laptops where you flip the screen around(the slates are they annoying ones).

know i need to find more laptops with a touch screens. do those things work like mice? im wondering since then it would work with anything.

IBMs are very pricey but what you get is a quality, rock-solid, dependable laptop. You should never have any problems with it. Also take in account that its other components are much better. For example, its motherboard chipsets are usually faster. Most IBMs come with this security hardware chip (don't know what it does though). And this is a biggie: most laptop's speaker suck cr@p. IBM speakers rock, they can go very loud and have great quality. That way you don't have to be chugging along external speakers if you want to listen to music with friends. Etc, etc...

    lol, below you! usa.

why, you have had problems with dell? there the only techs i like, there not brain dead. ibm isnt that bad, but hardware seem to be the best or crap, dell is more guaranteed to be atleast ok.

i dont think theres anything special about compaq. i heard that toshibas are built very well, but how man times do you plan on somethings that cost a few thousand(laptop $2-3 then wireless network, extra cd-rw and or usb storage...)?

this is like discussing religions, mines always the best go dell!

    lol.

Dell laptops are horrible (from my experiences at least). Their techs were absolutely idiotic.

From what I hear, their desktops are a different story.

My laptop ( a dell) is 2 years old, tech support doesnt support me at all...
My laptop is broke for about a month right now and all ive got from tech support is sorry we cant help you go figure out on ur own( not in those words but you get the point).
Now ive handed over the laptop to a guy who works with IBM (hes gonna fix it for me) and he wasnt surprised when i said that dells tech support was letting me down on a laptop that is only 2 years old...

If i could buy myself a new one i would go with a IBM or Compaq.

    ::edit::
2 years old is not anylonger " top of the line" but for coding it works just perfect, and thats all a comp has to do for me :d

    what happened?

there not the brightest tech, but they dont act like they know everything(something i like). plus they have a good program to go by(i always seem to hear them typing in my question and just reading off, but there nice about it).

when one of my fans died my computer shut off on its own(p4s get pretty hot). i figured it was a fan and i got switched over to their specialist. he knew what he was talking about(i mention that it in the middle of a compile and he said (as a joke) i hope its not gentoo...my distro, nice touch i thought). they had me open up my case(something no other company would ever think about). all around good support, not to long of a delay(on hold for about 10 mins. compaq had me for OVER a hour just like ms did once).

buts that was with my desktop. my laptop hasnt had any real problems.

GanglyLamb, unless you pay for it they dont have to support it! there limit was one year, i heard something about 90 days somewhere.

so they didnt even have to talk to you!

compaq support is brain dead. they cant grasp the concept of dead video card or hard drive.

i havnt delt with ibm, but after hearing a friend of mine sending back a laptop 3 times in a matter of month i wont by anything from them(maybe servers, they are great at high end stuff).

    Martman just for the record.

I bought a battery for my laptop followed all their instructions carefully, i paid them enough money IMO for that crappy battery and because ive used this battery my laptop is dead.
The battery was supposed to be compliant with my laptop according to Dell...
I hate Dell i've spend money on something that ruined my laptop, ill never forigive them, everything from school projects for chemistry, physics, dutc, english and so on were on that. Not to mention all the source codes... now thats history because i followed "the rules of Dell's engagement" and i even paid them to ruin my laptop...

Never ever again i will believe something out of a book unless i've read 5 books on the same topic, but i dont think Dell will have 5 booklets wich describe how to use and install other batteries.

    Screw Dell

Greetz to all (except 4 Dell),

    Ganglylamb.

no, im looking to buy a laptop and am still deciding on a brand. i was thinking dell but i dont really want to deal with some phone system tech support. id rather have the option to bring it in to a store for on-site repair. besides, staples (xplio) has the best prices. i just dont want to spend 2G's on cr@p.

well the battery would tell you the voltage/amp/type so you should of none better too! its kind of hard to screw thatr kind of stuff up...

so you bought the battery from dell, they not required to hold your hand on that kind of stuff, unless it was a upgrade on the same order.

you could save those files, if you still have it. the drive probally didnt get zaped. i blew a old compaq prolena before and only the power supply died on me(that sucka was a tank).

i think once i looked into getting a extra bettery for mine, it pretty sire it gave me a link to a specific battery(i blew it off sinse it was kind of pricey at the time, it was one of those double batteries).

Oh yuck. I had a desktop by packard bell - bought it used. It was horrible. It wasn't a tower, it was a regular desktop - and the cards in it (modem, etc) were installed HORIZONTALLY. So, if you wanted to add a card to a slot, you had to take out all of the cards above it... horrible. The computer was crap, too.
    Away.

every talkt to their tech support? there horrible, ms was more help.

    i started with one of those(a 233).

even the towers were crap. i think they bought nec awhile ago so i wont buy anything from them.

i dont think ill move away from dells(besides from serevr, it would be kool to play with a couple cheap ones. i might be able to get a very cheap sun box).
