    RAM not stable

well, i got something problem about the RAM.
according to the manual book of the motherboard said, it could support PC2100 DDR RAM, however, it didn't mention about PC2700.

before then, i have installed PC2100 256MB of the DDR RAM. it's look quite stable and should be not problem while executing the program or games (eg : counter-strike). after i have added PC2700 516MB of the DDR RAM. only the counter-strike game prog couldn't play it very stable. that's mean that it would be not responding when i'm playing the games for about few minutes. is it not stable if i install the PC2700 ?

i have tried to tell the seller that it should be problem and not stable. however, he said that sure it could use and support on my motherboard. so what should i do ?

    any comments about the problem?

yup salem, the phase is not shown on the user manual. i try to check for the motherboard info, but i can't search any clue as well.

so ? what should i do is just claim the PC2700 back and replace with the PC2100 ?

BIOS parameter ? ok, i got your point, thank for info. :P

so ? wat the problem right now ? i can't get figure it out whether my motherboard could support both PC2100 and PC2700. my motherboard is "ASUS P4S333-VM" and maybe the RAM should be not in a same speed, so that it might not stable when execute the program.

Are you putting both in at the same time? That might be a problem. I'm not saying it is a problem, just it could be.

Your motherboard does support PC2700, and PC3200, and PC3500. DDR is DDR. Whether you have PC2100 in there or PC3500 they are running at the same speed. The number only represents the potential stable speed of the RAM.

PC2100 is made to work at 133 MHz, PC2700 at 166, PC3200 at 200, and PC3500 at about 220 MHz. But that does not mean it runs at those speeds by default. You have a stick of PC2700 in there, but it's just running at standard PC2100 speeds.

Have you tried running the game with just the PC2700? If it still screws up, you might want to check your RAM timings in BIOS. This probably won't be a problem, I'm guessing you haven't messed around in there, but it might still be worth a look.

The RAM itself may be bad though. The place you bought it from should be able to RMA it and give you a new one.

    TravisS,
yup... thank for info, the problem has been solved, i tried to put the RAM which is PC2700 at the first slot and then the old one place on the 2nd slot (i mean is is the PC2100). very strange huh ? if still got problem, i will try to use your way to fix it. anyway thanks again.

p/s : i think PC2100 should be 166Mhz and PC2700 in 333Mhz. i get the info from the label of the product

Hehe, RAM and slots can be very picky so honestly I'm not suprised if that fixed it

I gave the FSB speeds of the RAM, the "real" speeds are double everything I said.

I.E. PC2100 runs on a FSB of 133, but because it's double data rate it's really running at 266 MHz. PC 2700 @ 333 MHz, etc...
