hooking dvd audio (video?) to new mobo

I have a pioneer dvd-115 dvd rom drive im hooking into my new p4 board (model number doesn't matter). It has 2 ports for this kind of thing, a cd input, and an auxiliary input. Both are made for the same type of cable (mpc2) otherwise known as a cd audio cable. Now im wondering, my dvd used to hook into the graphic and sound card (the p4 board has them built in), but that cable won't work with this board, an mpc2 will....but then will I only get sound from the dvd drive? I'm not that familiar with them. Here's the link to the cable i had: http://www.cablemax.com/show-item.cf...und-cables.cfm
and the one i may need (the mpc2): http://www.cablemax.com/show-item.cf...und-cables.cfm

    thanks for your help

Didn't your dvd drive come with one of those cables? Most manufacturers supply that standard MPC2 cable with the product

Anyway, do you get no sound with just the IDE cable plugged in? I was under the impression that modern CD-ROMS (and probably DVD too) can supply the sound through the IDE cable.

If not, you have two connectors right? Get one of those little MPC2-MPC2 cables for your DVD, you can probably even find one for free. Then, just leave the CD-ROM plugged into the cd input, and plug the DVD one into the aux. input. That should be all you need to do to get sound from both.

it came with a cable, but it has different pins than the mpc2.
The bios and windows see the drive, but when i put a disk in, it can't read it (says windows cannot read this disk, it may be corrupted or in a format not recognizable by windows). So i figured it was that cable.

Nah, that cable is just for supplying sound... something else is wrong, no clue what though.
