    MS Word Problem

    On my system, when I open word, it takes up as much processor power as possible (usually 80+ to 90%) and the screen goes blank. It stays this way for a little while and then word gradually lets up its stranglehold. From there, the document opens. I would expect this on an older system. However, this is a newer system. 1.8 Ghz P4 and 256MB RAM.

    I'm not entirely sure but I'd do a virus scan.

    >>> On my system

    That is not the case on mine, so the problem is at your end, (not gloating - merely pointing out that what you are seeing is atypical).

    Reinstall?

    Also check to see what addins you have and (if any) try take some off.

    One other cause is that some apps provide extensions to office products and these are loaded with the app. If the extension is not working too well, then that can stop wod from working properly

    It's pretty standard Word 2002. I have never installed any plugins or extra languages. I might try reinstalling if I have no other options. If I do reinstall, how will that work with the registration number?

    BTW, the same thing also happens when the app gains focus.

    Such problems are common with pirated products.The reason is that many sibsidary files are not copied properly.If your copy is genuine,then contact your vendor to change the CD's.If in case they are pirated(which I sincerely hope isn't the case)then we shall have to use other techniques to get the thing to work.

    Well, I don't have a disk light on my computer. Also, the problem doesn't happen when all documents are closed. But, it does happen when there is a completely blank document open.

    Bookworm, no the copy isn't pirated. I was wondering if MS will give me the already installed on another computer error if I try reinstalling this on my computer.

    Why don't you contact MS Support for help?
    U can ask them that if u reinstall the product,whether u will receive an error message or not.But I don't think that will happen.The most recent MS product that I bought was VS.net and I reinstalled it 3 times.But to be on the safe side,ask MS about it.
