mixing ram types. sdram and ddr

As some people who frequent FD know, i had to buy a new mobo for my computer. I can get a stick of 512 ddr cheap from a friend, but i also have 768 megs of sdr leftover from the old mobo, and i think they work. My question is, would it be ok to drop in 2 sticks of the sdr in addition to the 512 of ddr? I'm sure it would work (at least with one stick, im not sure how many the mobo will let me put in of sdr). But i want to know if there will be a performance hit if i put in the sdr, vs not putting in the sdr
    thanks

No. This would not work. The reason is that DDR uses a different number of pins than sdram. Sdr uses 168-pins, while ddr uses 184-pins, thus they are incompatable.

My mobo has slots for both, however, if it detects a stick in one of the DDR slots, it ignores the SDRAM slots. I don't know of any mobo's which will allow a mixture to run at the same time - could be of course.

Yes, you are correct. Even if your board has both slots, you will not gain anything but a headache by installing diff types of RAM. Besides, as started it will only recognise one type.
