    PROB: geforce4 ti4200 128mb

Hello everyone I have a problem (obvious).
    I have a geforce4 ti4200 128mb
on startup display it states that it is 128mb however in windows display properties->advanced->geforce it says the adapter is 64mb.. also 3dmark2000 says i have 64868kb of video mem... i have the latest drivers and the latest patches for windows me. I have even tried downloading the driver before last to see if it was just a strange error with the drivers. However it also states that it is AGP (pci mode)
when i go to direct 3d settings it says pci memory size 127mb mem for textures in pci mode.

so im confused is the card running as it should with 128 mb mem and if so then can someone help me figure out why i cannot even run the third test of 3dmax03 (i know 3dmax isnt an endall benchmark but systems much worse than mine at least complete the test)

    btw i have

    2.8 p4
    1 gig pc2700
    asus p4s8x-x
    geforce4 Ti4200 128

nothing has been overclocked (as of yet)
    thanks in advance

sounds like outdated drivers. Are you sure you have the most recent? You may have 128mb for like direct3d and 64 elsewhere i dont know nvidia too well.

Very strange. Thats a common "problem" on Voodoo 5 5500 (prob 6000 too) but I can't say I've seen that happen on a more modern video card.

    What brand is it?

Um, the voodoo 5 5500 is only 64mb ram so of course it would only show 64......

Did you uninstall the old drivers first?

If not, you should have done! Then install the new ones.

If you did, then I dunno.

Ummm, yes, but in Dxdiag, and other such things it would show it as 32 megs thanks to the fact that each of the two VS100 chips had their own set of 32 megs, and many programs would just look at one and not both.

Dream - this is quite a common problem on win 2k and probably xp. What has happened is that windows has failed to find the driver for the agp bus on your motherboard and so has dropped to PCI compatibility. Therefore you lose 2x mode, sidebanding, pipelined transfers etc so you get a big performance hit off the graphics card. When you installed the motherboard did you let windows find the drivers for you? You actually need to install the AGP drivers that came with your motherboard or you might find an updated agp driver on the asus website.

i installed the agp driver for my motherboard =( Think i should uninstall the driver and reinstall the driver just to make sure? I think I let windows find it and then installed it later so maybe for whatever reason windows thinks that the card should still run in pci mode.. lemme fark with it some more thanks for all the replies

    man...

Okay so ive called Visiontek (maker) and they had me do all this stuff (which didnt work) so now ive downloaded BIOS and flashed it onto the card. I also am now using detonator driver 30.82 the guy said sometimes with this card set they see some wierd stuff with the 43.xx drivers I dont know if he just wanted me off the phone or what. Anyways the setup tab for the 30.82 says that the BUS is AGP. (read is agp) however it STILL says i only have 64mb ob mem. <cry> the guy said that i should put it into another computer and see if that one registers that it is 128 and if not send it in.. it will take 3 weeks after recieving it to test it and send a new one (or send back that one if it tests neg for bad chips). 2 weeks!!! you might as well stab me in the heart! (sorry over-dramatic maybe)

Check your BIOS, I doubt that this would be the problem, but check the Graphics Aperature Size... maybe that could be it. Doesn't nVidia offer immediate RMA and and send out your replacement card? I know that Maxtor does if you give them your credit card ###, then after you receive it just mail them the original VID card on 1 day air or something

Any conflicts in the device manager??? If not, you may atually have a bad card.
