LS-120. Not so SuperDisk?

Hello,

I've had an LS-120 for a couple of days now. It's been working fine with normal floppy disks, just like a normal drive. However, having just recevied a box of 120MB SuperDisks I thought I might try out copying large files. So I copied an 90MB file on to a disk. And waited. And waited. And waited...

The drive was making a lot of noise and when I checked CPU usage it had gone to 100%!!! It took nearly ten minutes to copy the file!

Does anyone else have one of these drives and can tell me the continuous transfer rate of this thing, or could explain why the CPU load is maxing out every time I copy large files to it?

I have an LS-120 on my old machine. Many's the time I thought it had got itself into a loop or something with that endless... "whiiiiiiiirrrr-dook-dook-whiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrr-dook-dook-" etc., I've learnt just to leave it alone, it usualy gets there in the end. It is actually quite reliable in my experience, once I learnt to leave it be, it has never given me any trouble.

There's probably a spec out there somewhere, google for it if you really want to know.

Yes, I have noticed that at times it seems to lose track of where it is and then proceeds to re-seek to the position it last wrote at...

Using MPEG-1 files as a test I can only get it to read continuously at a rate of about 23KB a second! I thought this drive was supposed to be ten times faster than a standard floppy!

Incidentally, one thing that annoys me is that all writes seem to be cached by Windows (The "Copying" dialog's progress bar is at 100% long before it's finished). Is there a way of turning that off?
