    Exclamation Power Mis-management

    Hello,

I seem to be having a problem with power management on my computer, in that I can put it in standby but can't resume from it (The computer appears to respond but displays a blank screen).

I've tried changing from the GeForce3 driver back to VGA, disabling my network card and playing with my BIOS power settings but to no avail. Would the Soundblaster Live! be the root of my problems? There isn't a Suspend option present in my Windows 98 Second Edition Start Menu, but if the computer couldn't do it why the options for it in the Control Panel?

I'm aware of the problems with the standby mode in various
computers, And i think the reason is because in Win98's time
few pc's (i think) could do this and so it hasn't been tested
extensvly, Solution: New windows? Windows update? Dont use
    it

I have the same problem but I run XP. Screen just stays black. Though one good thing about XP is the following. I have this really dumb 'power' key on my keyboard, right next to the 'delete' key. So under Win98 I would be typing away, miss the delete key, and POW, computer shuts down. Fortunately XP provides the ability to have the OS ask you first if you actually want to shut down.

XP should have no problems in the standby function, I suggest
a videocard update or update XP to service pack 1.

The problem started to occur as soon as you had a GeForce4?

In all honesty I can't remember. I wouldn't worry about it. If I am away from the PC for a while or I intentionally put it into standby I always save my work and close my apps anyway so if I have to reboot then nothing gets lost.

Same problem with me. As soon as I upgraded to a PNY GeForce 4 Ti 4200 my computer has not been able to go into stanby (on XP). I've formatted/re-installed XP, updated drivers, etc.. etc... and still I can't go into standby.

Nah, the one thing I liked about standby was the fact it resumed pretty quickly. With hibernate the more RAM you have, the longer it takes to boot. I may have "only" 512 megs, but it takes nearly as long to come out of hibernate as it does to do a proper boot up!
