Radeon VE 32MB && OpenGL?

Hey guys, i have a slight problem. My dual monitor works, my windows display works, and my Direct3D works, awsome, but i am having openGL problems.

Anytime i load a game based on opengl (ie half-life, a time to kill, etc), the game just crashes. My opengl programs don't work either, the spining triangle just shows up as a triangle, don't move, etc.

At first i thought maybe my card was overheating, even at standard clock settings, so i gave it a HUGE orb fan. Still didn't fix the problem, so i'm convinced its the drivers. The guy who sold it to me, a good buddy i trust, swears he ran opengl games with it, and i remember him using it with HL oepngl before, but he says its the same drives.

I can't find a GOOD set of drivers that aren't ATI's to save my life. Right now i am using Omega XP. I'm going to go download the ATI version (i hope), does anyone have this card/problem?

So OpenGL doesn't work right? And you program with OpenGL?

This is the first set of drivers i ever used (in reference to the original post) and they never worked for opengl for some reason.

Now with the ATI offical drivers i've moved up a little bit. My opengl VC++ progs run better than ever....but HL is still messed up, but not as much. Before HL would crash, now it makes it into the game but the controls are wrong (ie my left mouse button and jump and such don't work, but right mouse button fires as usual), and the video is messed up. This happens on every HL attempt running opengl @ any res.

perhaps the version of opengl that that card can interpret (cause of drivers etc i don't remember if it works with those entirely or if it's all at the hardware level) is older than what the game uses......weird, how olds that car, sounded old to me.

Barely a year old, theres no way its older than HL :P I can see why the 32MB would make it sound old, but i forgot to add the "DDR" after the 32MB when i made the title.

The full name is Radeon VE 32MB DDR, its based on the Radeon 7000 chip.

I love the card, its got to be something really lame for this too. I wonder if the new pc will fix it, should only be a few days now before its done.

Your Videocard seems old, Tried old drivers yet?

the Vid card was made in 2002. Its newer than the V5 and the V5 handled everything fine, and there aren't any old drivers, theres these and the omega aftermarkets i had.

just because it was made in 2002 doesn't mean it's based off of 2002 hardware. If I went and bought a new card based off of GeForce 2, it still is GeForce 2. You said it is based off Radeon 7000? Well the Radeon 7000 is pretty old.

Its not nearly as old as HL, and it has ran HL before, so thats obviously NOT the problem.

It's more than five years i know that. This problem is really ........ing me off, i can't even find anyone else thats experiencing it.
