    Open Linux installation difficulties

I have a major problem. I am running Windows XP :-(

I want to install linux alongside it. I used to be able to do it without partioning when I was on win98. But now I boot from the CD and when it starts to load the files it does the first, but on the second it immediately stops, the screen goes blank and the system hangs.

    Anyone help me please?

No error messages at all, just a blank scree. Trying to install onto a NTFS partiyion, but when it says 'loading...' it gets to the 'vmlinuz' file then just goes blank, CD spins but no work on the Hard drive, left it for two hours and no luck. I'm using the one from the Linux for Dummies book

You can't install Linux on a NTFS partition. Try using ext2 or ext3.

I don't know if open-linux works under vfat, try creating an ext 2/3 partition, that it's an special partition for *nix.
