    P4 Fan problem: Urgent

Ok so i built this computer for a friend last night, and it runs great, except for one thing. Its a out-of-the-box P4 1.8ghz. Let me comment real quick on - Dear god that is a huge heatsink and fan for such a little ass chip!- with that said heres the problem:

When the pc is running u can hear the fans, no big deal because the case has a 12 fan setup in it. Well out of no wear, i hear this loud ass rattling noise, almost like ball bearings bouncing around inside a fan. So i look in the case, and use my finger to stop the p4 fan, noise goes away. So my question is: Is this noise normal for a brand new P4 setup? Will it go away or is there a problem? The fan/h-sink combo is the black and silver on with the two levers that latch it down, since it wasn't doing this when i started i think it may be rubbing the heatsink because it makes the noise when i "dead-spin" it, but i wanna be sure before i take it out because then the silicon layer between the proc and h-sink will be broken, and i'm not sure i can stop it from rubbing anyway (if it is).

    3. Do not put URGENT!, or NEED HELP NOW, etc. in your title; it will not make people look at it any faster. Doing this makes many old time helpers on this board not look at the post at all.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

My P-IV is just about silent, and has been since day one, so I would suggest the answer is No.

Tubes of heatsink compound are not expensive. I wouldn't worry about taking it off. Fans are mechanical and wear out, they are always replaceable.

This shouldn't be worn out though, i mean i just opend the box. i'll have to pull it out and have a look.

shad - i know the rules, but the mods arne't going to castrate me for putting urgent in a topic once in my life, specially when it is urgent. This rule applies more, imo, to newbies in the c++ forum who need homework done for them, some things in the tech forum are urgent and need to be resolved quickly, hence my title.
