    File systems?? (Winxp -> DOS)

    Ok..I'm building a dos box right now.

    I'm frantically running back and forth between the pc that has broadband and this assortment of parts laying on a desk in my room out of a case. After finally getting this close to 10 year old hardware up and running, I went to put the DOS 6.22 operating system on it. Placing the dos setup program disk 1 in the floppy drive got rid of the "Invalid system disk" message due to the hard drive being blank. Well, that dos setup disk said, "replace disk and strike any key". So, I came back to the broadband computer and downloaded a DOS 6.22 startup/boot disk image and extracted it onto a floppy properly.

    To no avail.

    Is this happening because I keep switching back and forth between Windows XP and a hard drive that was used for dos? Am I getting file alocation table incompatability issues?

    I pretty much want to take the DOS startup files from this Windows OS machine and put them on a floppy so a hard drive that was once used for DOS can read them.

    Do I need to look into converting software or something?

    Oh, and, I think I used the hard drive that this DOS box will be using, as a slave on this windows machine. Does that mean the windows machine needed to format it? (I can't really remember).

    Please provide some input, I's a getting confused!

    I got the DOS 6.22 setup disks off the internet. I got them in a zip file and they were compressed images with a dos program.

    They are compatable with the 16 bit or 32 bit versions of Win Image.

    Now, I downloaded them onto this Windows XP machine, and put them on the formatted with Windows XP disks.

    I used the 32 bit version of Winimage and formatted the disks with this windows XP machine.

    Was that a bad idea?

    By the way, the boot disk and entire ms dos disk set doesn't work.

    It says remove media and press any key to continue.
