    Internet Explorer auto search

    Internet Explorer auto search

Can you disable this feature? Every time I enter an URL and spell it wrong, you are directed to some autosearch page, thus not letting you correct the spelling. You have to retype the entire URL again.

Example: misspelled www.cproramming.com (forgot the g):
    You're taken to:

    http://auto.search.msn.com/response....h=5&prov=&utf8

How do you disable this? I want the standard "Page not found" error and keeping the faulty URL.

    I'm using IE 6.0 in Win98SE

Dunno, but I find this really annoying.

Another thing I find annoying are ActiveX (laxitiveX) controls. I have them disabled. What's annoying is the Explorer keeps telling me I have them disabled everytime I go to a website which has them. I guess the intention is to annoy me enough so I go and turn them on.

    I switched to Opera instead.

Edit: The fact that I'd repeatedly misspelled 'annoying' as 'annoyning' was begin to annoyn me. So I fixed it.

go to tools, internet options, advanced tab, under the searching header (you'll have to scroll down a ways, it's after media) select the option to not search from the address bar
