attaching a vcr or other tv device to a computer

I have a video card with tv in, and a sound card with line in. Does this mean I could attach a vcr or such to my computer? What software will I need for this? Any recomendations for anything free and if posible linux compatible. My card is a radeon 7000 and it comes with ati multimedia center if that could be used.

Well, assuming your TV has an S-Video connection, you simply get an S-Video cable and connect it from your vid. card to your TV.

    There you go

I'm not sure about Linux, but everything you need to make it work in windows you should already have.

I am talking about attaching a vcr to a computer, not a TV. To clarify by TV in I mean that little yellow plug, not the one which looks like an oversized ps2 port.

    Oh, good luck

While it's probably possible, the quality will be far from good. You should be able to find an s-video to RCA conversion dongle thingy at some sort of store that carries that sort of thing.

why isn't it that none under stands what I am saying, I want software, not hardware, for playing a vcr, not a tv. I belive my graphics card already accepts tv stuff. I already found one piece but it is shareware and it really is only designed to run on 2000/xp pro. Anyone know of anything better.

I have a TV-IN card by Pinnacle, in my one, I got Pinnacle-TV software. I just connect my yellow plug to the TV in, the white and red plugs went into a 2:1 3.5mm jac to my sound card in and then I just switch everything on and start the software, I get a couple of seconds of static then I get perfect sound, I even get sound without the software started up!

    May have found a solution...

well although I have a video in port, ati multimedia center seems to only work with all in wonder products.

B/C your not being clear, is what you want to control the VCR like you do with the remote but only with your comp?? Or are you saying you want to accept a Video OUTPUT from the comp to the VCR or Video INPUT from the VCR to the comp??

    These require diff answers.

I want input. I just don't under stand if being able to plug in a vcr means that it will work. My card has the ports needed but I am not sure if you need special hardware aswell.
