    blue screen at startup

    Hi,
I'm Using Win 98SE and at the login screen it sometimes produces a blue screen that says

A fatal exception 0E has occured at 0028:C00527 in VXD VPIC(01)+00001C42.
    The processor is a AMD-K6-2 @ 500MHZ with 256MB PC-100 SDRAM.

As always where's the fault? Hardware or software? This even occurs when Windows is the only software installed.

    Thank you.

..........And I dont suppose that remark follows on from the AMD v Intel posts does it ?

I would not like to comment on your blue screen issue, but I am pretty sure it is not your loveley AMD overheating.

Lovely AMD??? Are you crazy? You could use one of those POS's to fry eggs while burning up your motherboard along with your RAM at the same time! FOOL!

Had to add this to clerify that I know what i'm getting into...

Yes, I can go into safe mode. I can get the blue screen to go away for awhile after many reboots.

I'm pretty sure i've had the same problem before with my win98 machine...it just hung at startup. I turned out booting into DOS and reformatting.

I just reformatted last Thrusday or Friday to try and get rid of the problem. The same computer previously had Windows 95 installed and it ran good enough.
