Ummm

Just wondering why, when I am listening to music on my PC and I dial up my ISP my music judders/sometimes stops for a couple of seconds.

As soon as the modem dials or disonnects it happens.

Why?

You might wanna chat to RoD.

Try checking for conflicts, upgrading all your drivers etc (ya know, the usual stuff).
When all else fails, read the instructions.
If you're posting code, use code tags:
/* insert code here */
yea man it ........es me off, makes my music pop and ****.

I used to think it was a ram thing, but its not cause i have more then 500mb now. I also thought it had to do with what order the modem/soundcard was in the pci slots, like maybe make the soundcard first, that didn't fix it either.

Let me know if u solve this.

Actually, it has nothing to do with the above. You're computer momentarily pauses when it tries to dial - just when it starts up dialing, that first initial click.

Expierment with this for a go:
Don't play any music.
Dial up to your ISP, and right after you click connect, move your mouse around in faster paced circles, do the same when you disconnect. Your mouse should stop for a brief moment. This is normal for 56k and I've seen it on all 56k machines I've touched.
The world is waiting. I must leave you now.

Have youe tried scaling up the process priority of your mp3 plater to realtime? Might help, but I think you would need an external utility to do this in windows.

Or you could switch to Linux

Linux * ( ftp download + listening to mp3's + burning a CD + make ) =

noncorrupt file + no pops or skips + no underruns + app came out properly

Wouldn't dream of doing somehting like that on 'doze. nice is nice.

If it happens when you're listening to a sound file on your hd (mp3, wav, etc) it's probably unavoidably and due to cpu utilization contention as has been suggested. There is another possible noise source though. It is possible to setup most modems to use the system speakers to hear the dialing and connection "racket". I have it setup this way myself, as my modem card speaker is pathetic and I like to hear if the dialup is working right. (You get used to a specific sequence of sounds and can tell if something is going wrong.)

There is an analog signal path from the modem through the TAD cable and to the sound card. Even if you haven't installed the tad cable the sound card may be trying to throughput the modem to your speakers and this might be perceived as you described.

One question. Does the pause happen when you are playing a music cd in your cdrom? Cpu contention shouldn't cause that to skip, as that is an analog path too and uses very little cpu time.

Yeh, mine does(and always has). I have a beefy system though now, so I figured it would stop.

As for cable and BT broadband-I would rather not go there! The no good scummy companies 'are not in my area' or as with BT 'my exchange is not updated as of yet'.

And BT estimate broadband will net them £650 million in the next two years. SO UPGRADE MY EXCHANGE! Idiots.

Blah blah yes I know they say to update a (tiny) local exchange costs £750k.....Yeh, right.

With a CD-ROM no it doens't, my sound for my modem comes from a little speaker right on the modem itself. I don't think its CPU cuz like i said alot of my buddie shave it and two of them have really decked out systems.

Sounds like poorly written software. Demands all the cpu time for a second or two as you dialup and/or connect. I wish they'd go back to making modems with controller chips onboard. About the only thing I can think of offhand would be to get an external modem on a serial port, and that isn't guarantied. Probably have to live with it.

yea guess so. It does it with music match, winamp, media player, aol, juno, netzero, so as it starts dialing.

Sell your big harddrive then. You've said that you're not using it anyway.
