motherboard has 2 IDE socket?

    Not really. There are a lot of myths about reading and writing to a hd shortening the life of the drive. The way most people use their systems, anytime the computer is on the hd is in use. The only exception is if you have your computer set up to spin down the drive after a period of inactivity. Most people don't have that enabled and never leave it on that long inactive anyway.

    Usually what happens is that you use the drive a couple of years and then either upgrade to a bigger, faster and cheaper drive (what I just did) or else build a whole new computer. Most of the damaged hd's I've seen have been caused by power failure/surges crashing the heads. Lightning is hard on hd's and modems.
